add spellchecker

when I type in an incorrect spelling then the word is underlined, is that the only indicator that the word is wrong. I have been trying to add on from Firefox an English spell checker, that has the icon at the top of the page, i.e page cut, print, theme font etc, but it hasn't. So how do you check the correct spelling. Hope this makes some sense, if not well you are not alone.

Firefox just underlines incorrectly spelt words, (what more do you need?)

TO check if you've got the British English language installed simply type the uk and the US spelling of colour into a text box and see which is underlined...

chuck, thanks, with IE, if you typed in a word incorrectly, where you are not sure of the spelling it would give similar words, i don't know why im finding it hard to explain this.

I don't have a spell checker on AB at all - only on Word - is that unusual?

my spelling is good, but there are words which i still fall over, so shouldn't there be an autocorrect button?

Right mouse click on the underlined words and it will give you suggestions.

Boxtops, if you use IE then that has no built in spell checker, other browsers do.

I have spellchecking in Firefox and if I right-click on a misspelt word then the suggested alternatives are displayed in the context menu.

i think i'm missing something here, have done that typed in an obvious incorrect word, and right clicked, it comes up with various options, including check spelling, click on and doesn't do anything, i.e doesn't spellcheck. and Sorry i'm not sure what the context menu is/where. With IE8 it did have a spellchecker.

actually i think it's now done it, perhaps it needed to reset, not sure, thanks for the advice.

No version of IE has a spellchecker as default, if you had one in IE then it was put there by an add-on. The Google toolbar is a common one that adds a spell check button.

well perhaps it was already on the computer, i don't know now because i don't use IE 8 any longer, as was told to switch to firefox, as was having problems with IE.

in firefox "add ons" install british english dictionary that will do your spell check

its seems to have, have to learn to put cursor over the word that seems wrong, then it comes up with alternative. Would rather it came up with box, say at the side of the screen with the correct spelling, if that makes sense at all.

The underline and right click way of spell checking is pretty much the standard way for everything and has been for some time.

clippy (the paper clip, or one of the office assistants in MS office) thankfully died after office 2003, but also wouldn't have been relevant for any browser.

I have used a computer for over 15 years and need my spell checker, only just discovered my keyboard does not have a divide key, after 15 years shows how much I need his key.

Chuck, i have only used firefox for a matter of months, and still not particularly familiar with it, as IE was installed on computer when i bought
it. I think it was yourself and Albags who advised changing to Firefox. The reason is that IE was really becoming a problem, but i can't say that FF is all that much better.

paper clip was a character on microsoft works i think it was who tried to correct text, it was fun especially when he scratched his head

Install Google Tool Bar, and click `Check`.

carlton, thanks but it now does it, underlines anything suspect, and then right click to look at alternatives, if installing a google tool bar make it any easier then perhaps will do that.
