When working on my laptop browsing or whatever I usually have my email account open, what I would like is some sort of notification eg. "you got Mail" either spoken or some sot of notificaton, can somebody tell how I would set this uo. PS. I am on gmail.
I find if I have my Gmail open in one tab while I'm browsing in another, the tab reads "Gmail - Inbox (4)" - when a new email lands it changes to "5". Not exactly a notification but I just have to cast my eye a couple of inches higher every so often.
gmail have the option for desktop notifications
Select options > mail settings > mail notifications on
You'll get a little box pop up in the right hand corner of your screen when you have new mail
If you have a pop mail server then have a look at PopTray.
It is a brilliant open source pop mail checker that handles multiple accounts. You don't need your main mail application open but you can open it from PopTray.
Each account can have a different sound when it gets new mail.
