acer aspire laptop

my grandsons laptop appears to have 2 hard drives- C & D.
The C drive is nearly full and clear of anything he says he dosnt need and the D drive is empty.
Can he download to D drive and if so how can he tell laptop where to download.

Not really two drives. It will be a single drive partitioned into to "logical" drives.

Shame that you didn't tell us what operating system he is using.

If XP, the simplest answer would be to move his Documents location.

If Win7 the simplest answer would be to remove the D partition and extend the C partition to fill the entire disk.

I have the same laptop.
I just keep the 'C' drive for the programs themselves.
I use the 'D' drive for all my documents, photos, music and video clips.
