A narrow black vertical strip about 3/8 inch wide, has appeared down the right edge of my screen. On the left side about the same width has disappeared off the edge of the screen. Fortunately not a serious problem as everything else is working normally. It seems that the whole visible content of the screen needs repositioning by moving slightly to the right. Can anyone suggest how to do this please?

Well it could be your TV screen, or your computer screen, or your laptop screen, or your mobile phone screen, or your sat nav screen and so on.

But as you dont bother to tell us it is hard to help.

Sorry, I hadn't realised there might be all those possibilities, but I did post under Computers and it is indeed my desktop computer screen that has the problem.
Most monitors have a set of controls along the bottom or right edge (front or back) which allow you to adjust the horizontal position (among other things). Many also have an automatic alignment button.

Difficult to be more specific as you haven't bothered to tell us the make and model of the monitor.

Many thanks Rojash. You have helped to sort the problem. I hadn't understood the controls you refer to. It wasn't a case of 'not being bothered' but rather not realising what details to give.
