Yahoo is an obvious one. I also have one I don't use a lot at fastmail.fm. Just do a web search and I'm sure you'll find loads.
I've had a subsidiary of mail.com as an email address for the past few years, which is & has always been free - but has adverts on your inbox - as per AB. However, the mail server & service is excellent, if you don't want the adverts, then there is a premium mail box available for you for the cost of £3.99/month.
Although I hate seeing companies using @gmail addresses or the like (especially when it's on sign-written vans... if you're going to pay to get a van sign-written at least pay the few quid to get a domain) for the average home user having a generic email address with one of the normal providers is perfectly good enough and not second class at all.
