Since I installed Skype about three weeks ago I've been receiving calls telling me that my computer speed and performance is below average and that my firewall is not active. Have been ignoring these as I thought it was probably a similar sort of scam to the 'we are Microsoft and we've identified an error on your computer' call. There's nothing wrong with my anti-virus protection; I ran a check to make sure.
Should I be responding to this message, and if not is there any way of stopping it? I've had three calls in the last half-hour.

Don't respond, it's a scam! Download Malwarebytes and run a scan, that should get rid of it.

Thanks Messi-Ten. I din't think malwarebytes would solve it, as if 'they' have my Skype number presumably they can continue calling it? I ran the scan: 'no malicious items detected'.
Report it to Skype
Uninstall skype and download again from a 'safe' site - looks like you got a dodgy version.

Thanks Tuvok and Sunny Dave. I hadn't realised that the download site might not be safe - can't remember precisely how I found it now. I expected I googled it. I don't think there was an alert from Norton, which I would have expected if it hadn't been OK. I'll investigate further tomorrow.

I understand this is a known scam:

Have blocked access to this caller so I hope that will sort it.
