I've just bought a new laptop. Acer Aspire and the chap in the shop told me not to use it whilst it was charging up. He said it would lessen the life of the battery.

When int's been on for most of the day, like today, it means that I have to switch it off in order for it to charge up again. Has he given me the correct information?

I think he meant on the first charge when you got it home. After that, charge when you like/need.
I think the key thing here is that *for the first few charges* you should get it completely full, then unplug and run it right down to empty - rather than just leaving it plugged in forever whilst you noodle away on AB.

I can't see that using it during the charging process should be a problem.

I will if you really want me to Yilly lol. ;-)
As s-d has said, it's a good idea to do this for three or four times - it will improve battery life.

Thank you all.
sunny dave is correct. leaving the lap top permanently plugged in ruins the battery. Dont know why but it happened to me. Bought a new battery but since it only lasts 1.5 hrs and constantly requires recharging I do not installit at all now - just plug into the mains without the battery in the machine.
