I like to use pronunciation accents, such as acute, tilde, etc. Where are they on a standard laptop keyboard ?

Are they available via Ctrl or Alt for instance ?

Just press the Alt Gr key at the same time as the letter

áéíóú
If youre using MS Word then its under Insert > Symbol > more symbols then Special Character.

Create a doc with the ones you use regularly and then copy and paste as reqiured
alt gr does acutes, but I don't think graves can be done the same way, you have to use codes. As for tildes...
Have a banaña ?
Kindle...hold letter key and pop up shows variations...€èéêë³

Thanks guys.

Frank...the links are interesting but they are very haphazard and mostly don't work.

hc4361..this works for áíóú etc...thanks

But I use fractions a lot of the time and it does seem a lot of faffing about every time you need to say quarter, or half, etc. I also need to use the Euro sign every now and then but can't find it anywhere, at least not on my Acer Notebook that I am using now. Seems odd that Mr Gates got so terribly rich without sorting out this little problem !

Sorry Mikey, not sure why they don't work for you, they seem to for me.

Thanks anyway Frank...AB has helped me so many times in the past and I am not sure what I would do without it !

Wish I could find those fractions !
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting/CreateFraction.htm

If you look where I told you theres numbers (any symbol you want in fact) that can be used as superscript and can form any fraction you want.

If you scroll down in that list theres single superscript numbers that can be used to construct any fraction you want.

The Symbols window can be kept open so you dont have to keep going to it, just type away and insert as needed

The only fractions I am aware of are.... ¼ ½ ¾.

Using Numeric keypad press and hold 'alt' and then type 0188 to get ¼. alt 0189 for ½ and alt 0190 for ¾.

Thanks everybody...I can see where I have been going wrong. I have been using the numbers in the row underneath the F keys, and not the ones that are normally used for mjkluiop789 ! So ¼½¾ !

Don't forget the tilde when you're wishing a Spaniard a happy new year.
