Vista!

For some reason my windows password stopped working last week. I didn't know how to recover it so I reloaded vista. Now it refuses to connect to internet. It won't find my virgin media hub.
Any ideas on what to do?

Connecting to the router via a cable or wi fi?

You may need to install a special "driver" to get your network card working.

Often after the install of Windows some drivers need to be installed to get certain hardware components working.

You can download these drivers from the company web site who made the computer.

It is connected via cable. It's about 4 years old now. Hardware and software all bought online. I don't know if the pc has a makers name i.e. Dell etc.
I do have some disks that came with it. I will try these.
Failing that, it could be upgrade time to 64bit

For the future, it is usually a good idea to have a separate administration account / password that you can use to fix things with if your usual account develops problems.

It's not the PC's name that's the issue, they are all to a set standard, I think it's your Virgin media hub that may need drivers installed on your PC. Bit surprised it isn't detected at all though.

Thanks Geezer, but how do I get the drivers if I can't connect to web. This is proper frustrating.

Hi xud.....I am assuming that at the moment you are using someone else's computer to contact Answerbank. It's just a thought....You might be able to download the drivers to a memory stick and transfer them to your comp....I am not too sure, but it might be worth exploring the idea.

I have a Virgin Media Hub and it does not need any special drivers.

The drivers will have come with the motherboard.

One of the motherboard drivers will be for Ethernet or Network or similar phrase.

I am not sure what upgrading to 64 bit has got to do with it.

You will still have the same problems if you are using 32 bit Windows or 64 bit Windows.

If you have reloaded Vista, have you also re-set the Internet connection on your computer. Perhaps it is worth having a look in your Control Panel.

Open 'Internet Options' in the Control Panel to reveal a Box marked 'Internet Properties'. Click open 'Connections' and, if there is Not a Broadband connection listed, there will be a 'Set-up' button for you to proceed accordingly with installing.

Thanks for the advice. I contacted virgin media and they started to talk me through the clicks I needed to take. They say that the LAN is at fault, i.e. not there. I am totally at a loss now.
I have gone onto control panel and tried to set up a new connection but it does not find my hub.
