Avast -Threat Has Been Detected

I have a new laptop which I'm still in awe of and not at all as confident on it as I was with my old pc. I keep getting a pop up saying 'threat has been detected' but when I go into Avast it says everything is okay. This happens every 30 seconds or so. Any help in very, very simple terms would be gratefully received - thank you.

Have you got Malwarebytes 'Free Edition' installed ??
Do a quick scan with that

I'm not sure Redman - will look in my programmes and report back. For info - when I press the 'more details' bit it takes me to the a page that tells me Avast has just protected me from a virus but other than asking if I want to upgrade that's about it.

I've just done a scan (with Avast) and it says some files could not be scanned.

Many thanks to all - what I've done is to right click on the Avast icon and turned off the sound - this seems to have turned the pop up off too. Will run another scan now and see what happens. Again, thank you for helping.

This 'Pop-up' which you are getting. I would really like to know all that it says.
Does it suggest anything, apart from informing you that 'threat has been detected'.

At this stage, I think you should follow the advice from redman41 and then report back after you have done a Quick Scan with Malwarebytes.

I got rid of avast rsvp, it was just too much of a busybody

@Jordyboy9....I couldn't even make a guess without a lot more information.

What is the full message which you are getting ?. What Browser are you using ?. How are you over-riding the 'blockage' in order to post into AB ?.
Is the problem only affecting Answerbank ?. etc, etc. The more info the better for diagnostic purposes.

Hans when I went onto the info it just said I'd been protected - that was the strange thing - there was no further information and yet the little Avast icon on the bottom right hand side of the screen told me everything was okay. For some reason when I disabled the sound the pop up stopped.
Humbersloop that's a perfect way to describe Avast - a busybody.
Jordyboy I'm afraid I can't help you but I did google 'why does Avast repeatedly tell me a threat has been detected' and I got a load of info.
Touch wood my computer has been perfect all evening.

I'm having the same thing with DEll PC/Firefox/XP. The message reads:

avast! Web Shield has blocked a harmful web page or file

Object: http:/

Infection: URL: Mal

Process: C\:Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe

Then there's a blue box with 'more details' and below that the option to report the file as a false positive.
Are they just trying to annoy us into paying?

I think so douglas9401 - I thought the pop up and voice message to tell me a threat had been detected was fine and reasonable once, but every 20/30 seconds a nightmare - designed to panic us into upgrading.

Have you tried the 'report as false positive' option? That should tell avast that what it has found is actually ok and it should remember that decision. The warning is standard practice with protection software, not an attempt to get you to update.

Yes, bibblebub, I have, twice. The problem is that it pops up every time I open new page or return to one already open.
I'm off on holiday today and if it's the same when I return avast will be getting the heave ho, me hearties.

There are some that are "worthwhile" but others just want you to buy the "real version". So they keep telling you what sort of "problems" you have.

I have used avast for years and it very rarely, if ever, asks me to upgrade. Some people just can't help but hand over money unnecessarily.
