Sandy, your pc is not wifi enabled so you need to buy an adapter or card.

if it doesn't already have a wifi connector you can get USB wifi connectors for about a fiver. got mine from amazon.
Booldawg answer is probably correct, but I notice you have quoted an old Quad core Intel processor (Q6600).

It might assist if you could advise us of the Windows O/S being used.

I'm using Windows explorer 7
Ron has linked to a bluetooth adpator, not a wifi adaptor. They look similar but do different things.

You can use either an adaptor (otherwise called a dongle) or an internal wifi card which is my preference. Easy to fit if you have a screwdriver.

Yes, it will. I'd prefer a wifi card - doesn't take up a usb slot and better connectivity in my opinion
I'm really stupid when it comes to technology. The dongle Sandy has posted I could just put that into my wired PC and it'll be wireless?
Yes, ummmmm
Make sure your pc isn't already wifi enabled. All of mine are, including a Windows machine I bought in 2009

Is my computer too old to be wifi enabled? How would I check if it is?
I'll go with the dongle. Wouldn't want to risk opening the computer.
Thanks all for the advice.
Doesn't look like it is. Just looked at the specs on the internet. The poor battered computer :-)
How old is your PC? If you bought it with Windows 7 it can't be more than 6 years old.

You need to look in your device manager under 'network adapters' or similar.
Sandy....I just typed my computer make "aspire x3200" into google and the specs came up.

I've bought the dongle you posted :-)

Go with homeplugs. More reliable than wifi and you will get the best speed. £24.99 from Argos. Make is TP-LINK 500mbps.
Here is the one I use, from ebay, if you wish to avoid using Amazon ::

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EDIMAX-Wireless-USB-Adapter-802-11n-150Mbps-Wi-Fi-Multimedia-EW-7811UN-/151639038405?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item234e6419c5

You simply plug it in to your USB slot, and it accesses your Router...very simple to set up as well...simply plug an play !
Don't get confused by dongles and wireless USB adaptors !

If you have a wireless router in the home, ( ie, a broadband Hub ) than you don't need a dongle ! Dongles are only necessary when you don't have internet access, like if you are using your computer away from the home.
I use a dongle in my caravan but its not needed in the house.

Sorry if the above may seem obvious, but I thought it might be useful to point out anyway !
