Yes. However, there is Not any need to pay for an anti malware programme. (You could have also had your AVG for nothing.)

Download the free edition of Malwarebytes...Making sure that you avoid any offers for a Trial of the Premium edition and ensuring that there are Not any boxes with ticks to accept other offers. :-

Hans.
I'm 100% behind Hans's answer but I'll just mention one thing:

The Premium (i.e. 'paid-for') version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is, like AVG, software that continuously 'runs in the background', watching out for any nasties that might be heading your way. (Like Hans, I don't think that you actually need that version).

However the free version of the program is only 'run on demand'. That means that it will do absolutely nothing unless you remember to actually run it occasionally! I suggest running a scan with it about once per fortnight or immediately if
(a) you've started seeing odd things happen on your computer (such as lots of pop-up ads appearing) ; or
(b) you realise that you've clicked on something (such as an email attachment) that you probably shouldn't have done.

As usual two wonderfully clear answers and helpful advice from Hans and Buenchico - thank you so much, will do as advised and download the free version and run if regularly.

Hans and Buenchico just to let you know I did follow your collective advice and the anti malware found lots of 'pups' -(collective noun litter or puppies? :-) .......thank you for helping me and stay well.
PUPs are Potentially Unwanted Programmes. I dislike the description. AV should either do away with stuff because it's "bad" or leave it: not expect the user to know whether they need to be deleted or not :-(

Thanks OG I agree with you - anything which simplifies (for me anyway) the mysterious technology of the internet gets my vote. I mean, for example, what's with this email lark? how can you send a letter without a stamp - whatever next!!!!!Stay well
oh, the big websites will deliver it for free - as long as they're allowed to read it first. And they'll let the government know if they see you writing anything they don't like.
