Iphoto's Problem

I have an Apple Mac book Pro and I noticed that half my photos are stored in iPhoto and others in the update Photos. I the there are duplicates too.
How do I sort them out and get rid of duplicates, as they are taking up a lot of space.

I don't use iPhoto because if you make any tweaks wit it and then save, you end up with the original, the tweaked and thumbnail files!
