Until a few days ago if I clicked to open my hard drive I saw a folder called "Windows.old" sitting there. I understood it was there incase I wanted to revert back to Windows 7,which I haven't. BUT, it's now missing! I feel that it's been removed by Microsoft to stop me reverting back to my old O/S if I wanted to. I know it was taking-up about 30GB on the drive and MS might say that they where saving me some space, but now I don't have the option!
I'm not sure what data was in that folder( I did a full backup anyway of the whole system) but it's the arrogance of Bill Gates,he'll be charging me next for updates!!

I found that also. MS take the bloody liberty of deleting it without your permission is you haven't reverted back within a set time. Disgusting interference on someone else's PC.

But it's the way of the world now, everyone but the sane few think it is wonderful to tolerate being manipulated by organisations, see no issue with it, and most likely love & approve of the personal data extraction by all and sundry too.

When did you upgrade to W10?

OG, if you want W10 and keep your existing version of Windows buy W10. That way both operating systems will have valid licence keys.

The free offer of upgrade from MS makes it very clear you have 30 days to revert back, and 30 days only.

To hc4361,I upgraded about 29.5 days ago! But I wonder if the 30 days is counted down from their control or the 30days from when I installed it- at 10:25am but will that be European time,World time or Bill Gates' Microsoft time;will their clocks switch off free downloads at different times all over the world? I shall be waiting at the pearly gates when Bill arives and give him a copy of Windows XP with bugs!!

It's one thing not to be able to revert after 30 day, regardless how clear it was; it is quite another thing to delete directories on someone else's PC without their permission. That is stepping way over the mark. I had shortcuts and other references that could not be found after that.

Clearly I was not going to buy W10. There would be no reason to as I had a working copy of W7 already. It was only the free upgrade that made it worth trying. (In fact I tried in the hope it would solve a PC issue and it didn't anyway.)

They were bound to be given that they pointed to places in windows.old

I'm the same as OG! I had lots of data that linked to shortcuts,etc. in W7 but have gone, when the folder Windows.old was deleted. Fortunately I was able to re-create the links and after a few 'messy' hours,have most things configured 'nearly' as they were. With hindsight I would have stayed with windows seven! I think? They've got you by the short & curlies. Sad,but.

Don't be sad! Get to know W10, embrace it and love it.

Remember, right click on the Windows icon for lots of things you think you can't find. Or ask Cortana!

I mourned Windows 3.1 for a long time, but we have to move on.
