However such problems are frequently caused by something else on your computer hogging all of its resources, leaving insufficient for your browser to function properly. The most common cause (by far) is a fault with the updating function of security software. (Microsoft's own products, such as Security Essentials or Defender are most often to blame but AVG and Norton - and possibly others - can also have the same effect). The solution is to uninstall, and then reinstall, your security software (or to simply replace it with something else altogether).
