Can anyone tell me the difference between Macromedia flash and macromedia fireworks, why you would use one and not the other.

From the fairly limited exposure I've had of each, Flash is a prog used to create animation, fireworks is used to help create web pages.
Wickerman is half right, Flash is used to producing rich web content, mostly but not always animation. Fireworks is used to create graphics, particuarly for web content.
