Use Wifi router on wired university network

I have a wifi modem router which I want to use my university network. I disabled the DCHP server and connected it to the university network, but it says that I may only have one IP address to use the network, how does it know? I have managed to connect to the network from my computer through the wifi successfully but it knows I am using it! Is there a way to set it up so my computer is invisible and it appears to be using a normal connection? Thanks

If it's a modem+router then you'll need to disable the modem, and if you can't do that, then you can't use it on the network in the first place.

Then you may need to authenticate a device when it goes on the network (you do at my uni), which basically checks the MAC number of your device, so once you've done this with your computer you should change the MAC address of the router to this same MAC address. Many routers allow you to do this.

Finally, using a router may be against the uni's network policy, so could easily take you off the network without any trouble.
