I have had a computer for ten years, and used it only as a wordprocessor for about five years - is there a website where I can go and learn what I can do with the thing - I use it for the web and emails, obviously, but there are many things I do not know about, and wish I did. I could seach but that would make me waste more time!!! Sorry for my ignorance - the manuals do not tell you everything!

Well, 'what to do with the thing' depends on what you want to do. It's a tool for doing things with. What do you want to do?
Are you UK based cos if you are local colleges do free courses for beginners and its much more fun learning with others
I have had a laptop for just over a year, as a silver surfer, and I have been on a four week, an afternoon a week, course which did not give me a lot. I bought a few books and the one I would recommend as a real beginner is :- The Beginner'sGuide to Computers and the Internet' by Susan Holden and Matthew Francis at 5.99 ISBN 1 84024 396.

Thankyou Hugh, Yvonne and fo3nix for your replies - I had an email which had funny animals dancing up and down and when I tried to send it to a friend, all they got was the writing and red x's where the animations were. What did I do wrong, also there are lots of programmes on this which I know nothing about - I guess I'll have to read a book or two - lessons are fine( I've actually had some!!!) but the book is always there and you can refer back to it - which you can't with an instructor when the centre is closed! Thank again.
