I've brought a cable to hook up my laptop to my HD TV. I want to set my laptop to a resolution that will be able to put HD signal on the TV as I want to watch some HD content and see what the fuss is about. Are there any programs which will allow me to tweak the output resolution of my laptop to fit my TV's resolution? If not, how can I do it?
Thanks, Rich

You don't need any special programs to change the screen resolution.
Right-click a clear area of the desktop
Choose Properties
Go to the settings tab and adjust

You will not be able to select a resolution that your monitor/video adaptor does not support, though!
You may be able to set modes that your monitor does not support by clicking the Advanced button, going to the Monitor tab and unticking "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display". Be aware of the following though:

If you set it to modes that the monitor can't support, you should first connect to the TV and disable the built in screen.

You will still only be able to select a mode that the built-in video adaptor is physically capable of producing.
