usb1.1 to usb2

Hi everyone. Having just fitted a USB2 5port card inside my Desktop PC to up the speed of the ports. Can someone out there please tell me. Do I have to plug my Modem into one of the new USB2 ports or doesn't it matter if it's still connected to one of the old 1.1ports? And when the card IS fitted does it change ALL ports to USB2? or do the 1.1 ports stay as they are...slower. (I'm using WindowsXP with a Binatone ADSL 500 Modem).

The USB 1.1 ports stay at the old, slower speed unless you can physically wire them to the new card using its header pins (if they exist) or one of the USB 2.0 ports plus a header adaptor. This is not possible if the old ports form part of the motherboard i.e. are not connected to the mobo by cables.

And, you can keep your modem connected to the USB1 ports, but they'll be operating at the slower speed.

However, USB1 operates at a max throughput of 12Mibps. faster than your internet connection anyway, so you're unlikely to see any difference from this respect.
