Cordless Mouse.
Can anyone recommend a website where I can read about how these work ? Google just has too much to wade through. Perhaps you know of an article in a PC mag ? Any advice will be gratefully received, as my mouse is old and getting temperamental. A bit like its owner, come to think of it.

these are the two sites I visit religiously for this kind of thing. As a word of advice though, cordless mice generally break a lot sooner than mice with wires. They start to lose signal and start jumping around the screen so bear that in mind. I don't use one any more because you really never take it off the mouse mat. A wired OPTICAL mouse is the best in my opinion because they have no mouse ball and are the most reliable. Good luck

JP is on the money
just a thought though .... pointer jumping around
have you cleaned your ball?
another tip with an optical mouse - they use a red LED - blue is "anti red" green is "negative red" so a patterned mouse mat may well not be a good idea ..... a blue and green mat could cause chaos
try to stick with a single colour

Maybe you would like a similar mouse to the one I use. It`s a cordless optical, the mat plugs into usb port, the mouse is battery free and gets it`s power from the mat. I`ve had mine for over a year and I wouldn`t have any other type now. If you type cordless battery free optical mouse into google, you should come up with several reviews, and sites to buy from.
