CD Rom drive knackered
My CD/DVD drive has stopped working. It is only a few months old and I didn't exactly wear it out. If I put in any type of disc, it doesn't load, play, whatever - apart from a slow, "struggling" kind of noise (kinda like a car with a flat battery).
I've checked the properties under Device Manager but all it says that "this device is working properly".
Is there any way I can run a troubleshoot test on the drive? (I've also tried Nero but it won't work). Thanks.

Hmm...tried that yesterday and got the usual (non-) response. Just tried it again and it worked, so I then put in a CD and...nothing. Tried another CD and it played for ooh all of one minute then stopped mid-track. Tried the cleaning disc again and...nothing.
Surely the lens can't have burned out after only 2-3 months of less than average use?!

you could try deleting the device from hardware manager - but
What you describe sounds like a faulty read head ....
the struggling noise is the head hunting for track 1
as long as you've tried a couple of commercially produced CD/DVDs .....
Don't mess about .... the more physical things you try the more likely you are to invalidate the guarantee .... just send it back
bear in mind if you have to stand the postage costs it could be cheaper to buy a new one - writers start about 12
