I tried to install a programme called Verse Editor Plus from a CD - my OS is WinXP. I only got to where it asks for your name and organization, when the mouse froze and the screen went blank momentarily. I tried to abort the installation but, in the end, had to reboot and remove the disc. Problem is, mouse keeps freezing and screen keeps going blank and there is no programme to uninstall. Must be some files that were installed, but have no idea what they can be. Anyone any ideas?

.this is often suggested for this kind of problem - download a free copy of Ccleaner - just Google for it - run the Ccleaner uninstaller utility, and have it scan your registry for any leftover cr@p.................
Try a system restore from the last restore point immediately prior to the installation.

Tried the CCleaner, but no difference. System Restore did fix it, but, thanks to both of you, I now know a lot more than I did before. Thanks again, Liz.
