Does anyone know why my new lappy is playing silly games with me ? It loads web pages and links fine for about 2 hours , but then refuses to open anything at all and will only refresh . ? xxx

a bit like using wireless, an iPod and an LG chocolate
if you want a different browser ... by all means download firefox ... if your connection is clearing ... it's possible that something else is afoot - whatever else explorer does ... this isn't one of the more usual things
if you are curious about FF ... download this version http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_ portable
which won't impact on your system and try it ... it's useful for faults like this ... because it's not interfering with settings.
if you like .... then make the change - if not ... no damage done
before then
in explorer look in tools | internet options | general | browser history settings.
set the cache to between 500-800 and tick the "refresh everytime you visit" option
then look in connection
you don't say how you connect ... modem or router.
if its a modem ... check that the connection isn't set to cleardown after a set time.

Hello ACtheTROLL , thank you for your help , I am in internet options at the moment , I have selected " refresh everytime I visit " .In connections it doesn't give me any options to change anything. At the moment I have my lappy connected to the modem via a patch cable but do use its wireless capability when away from the desk. In security , do I keep the "Enable Protected Mode " ticked please ?
it depends what your surfing habits are (that sounds much worse than it should......)
all the privacy options are good for protection ... but many websites (quite innocent ones) insist on knowing all about you ... so some sites will refuse to give you access to anything other their text unless you accept a cookie ... of let them see who you are
the thing to do is remember it's there ... and if there isn't any option ... drop your defences until you move on
