Have you tried accessing it through the Tools menu of Internet Explorer?

Buenchico, thanks but as I say thats the first place I tried.
Sorry, I didn't read your post properly. (I don't function well until I've opened a bottle or a can and, unless I start on that bottle of port I've been saving, I haven't got any booze in the house!).

Have you got SpyBot Search & Destroy on your PC? If so, it can lock access to Internet Options. Solution here:
http://www.boutell.com/newfaq/browser/internet options.html

Otherwise, if you know that the problem is recent, try running System Restore.

Lastly, you could try sorting the problem out within the registry. Instructions are in that link. However, I advise backing up the registry before running regedit:

I envy you that Port. Had a can myself though.

I have got SB but both boxes mentioned are already unchecked. The instructions mention further steps to take but I can only get so far, ie I get as far as 'Restrictions' but there is no 'No browser Options' so I go to step 9 but this time I get as far as 'Microsoft' but then there is no 'Internet Explorer'.

Ive looked at your second link but I think that that is a step too far for me just now.

Thanks anyway.
any port in a storm eh!

if the spybot thing isn't the reason

by any chance are you running ms office (I can't remember which version it started in ...97?)

the option to only show the options you use .....

seems odd that only one option has vanished though.
if it's XP
have you tried signing on as THE administrator?
wonder if some obscure profile thing is "protecting" your system

Any port in a storm!!! Oh dear. No I quite liked that.
Interesting site ACtheTROLL. I have ms office 2003 but haven't changed any options in it. Indeed its been a while since Ive used it.
I believe I am the administrator as I am the only one who uses this computer. That is if I'm not missing the point here. Thanks for the input though.
the hidden menu thing is the default - it has to be disabled
and I've seen quite a few machines where it just switches back on....

my money would have been on Buenchico's option
just covering a couple of the less obvious.

how about re-installing ... or upgrading to ie7

Thanks very much people. All sorted. You got me on the right track. It was apparently a corrupted installation of IE7. Im back to IE6 and all is well. Many thanks again.
