uninstalling Norton

My new laptop came with Norton pre-installed , I'm going to uninstall & install AVG but is uninstalling it from the control panel enough? I've heard that it still infests your system after that . Also is the Vista firewall ok or should I use a different one with AVG?

Are all your laptops and pcs connecting via a router?
