Why does the speed of transfer get progressively faster when importing tracks from a cd into iTtunes? It starts at about 7x and by the time it finishes it is up to 16x. Why can't it be 16x all the way through?

any write device uses cache (to smooth the flow) ... and it takes time to fill the thing up ... and to negotiate with the media. so while the data transfer (measured on the HDD) is fast - the data flow (to the media) is slow. Once the chat is over ... you get the full speed.

strangely with a HDD it's the other way round ... the initial burst speed is the one most Mfrs quote ... because it's so fast.

if you can trust your burner ...instead of letting the software determine the speed set it manually.

problem is even discs in the same batch will require slightly different speeds ... so the reliability will drop
