I successfully installed SP3 on my laptop but on trying to install it on my PC I found that after over 4 hours it still hadn't completed and I was unable to cancel. As nothing appeared to be happening I switched off the PC and on restarting had to wait while the previous settings were restored. Has anyone else had a similar problem and if so how did they overcome it please. Thanks

Obvious question, but were both PCs running Windows XP?

Did you get offered SP3 via Windows Update on both computers or were you doing it via a CD or "stand alone" file?

Try turning off your Anti virus and firewall before trying to install it again.

Microsoft have a help page here, see if anything there helps

This document here tells you what to do before installing SP3. Note it says to tuen off your anti virus.

Many thanks for reply...Yes both laptop & Pc run Windows XP Prof and both SP3 downloads were via Windows downloads. Didn't turn anti-virus off for laptop but maybe I'll get a successful install on the PC if I do turn it off.
One thing I have noticed about the laptop is that the screen-saver does not come in now...just stays on wallpaper until I close the lid.
