Install the British English dictionary here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:3

Then in tools - options - advanced, make sure the spell checker is ticked

Thank you Ethel.

So simple, yet so hard for a fool such as I.
Judging by reports from other readers of the link it gives american spelling in the english version, also apparently doesn`t work well with Firefox 3.0. Any advise please?
It works fine for me

I shall do a screenshot if you like
