My neighbours readers have packed in ,its 18 months old with vista , I asked him if he could see them when he clicked on to my computer but he tells me no, I assume vista is like my xp and he should be able to see them ,any ideas I can pass on to him hes thinking of putting his back to factory settings disc in ,but ive told him to hold hard for abit until ive asked on here for advice all the best

Is it built in, or external/USB?

Assuming the former (from his plan), try Start>Control Panel>Device Manager. Are they listed there? (Mine are under "Portable Devices").

My suspicion is that either the drivers are corrupt or out-of-date.

Yes its internal , and I will send your advice to him and see how he gets on at least its a step further
