System Security

I was on here on Christmas eve regarding the fact that an icon of an orange shield with diagonal black stripes under the name System Security had appeared on my PC and in the bottom right hand corner. I can delete the one on the screen but cannot clear what appears to be the main problem at the right had corner of the screen. I have Norton 360 and have scanned and nothing was picked up and was advised by Chuckfickens to access a particular site which i did. I followed the instructions but unfortunately it failed to delete/clear my problem. I have not responded to any invitation to down-load anything from the site of the sad individual who originated my problem and although it is a significant irritant how the hell do I get rid of it. I might add that I am somewhat of a novice and I would need a "guided tour" to instigate any "rough stuff" to get rid of my problem. Thanks

Did you download and try all three of the programs which were suggested ?

Just to be clear, download and install and run, in this order Lavasoft AdAware Free (ChuckFicken's first suggestion), then Spybot Serach and Destroy (his second suggestion) and finally Malwarebytes anti-malware (which is the one I suggested). Links are in the responses to your first question.

There is at least one piece of malware (Vundo and variants) which hooks itself into the login process and uses random file names to make itself difficult to get rid of. If your mysterious program is not a virus, Norton may not spot it, but one or more of the suggested programs should get rid of it, that's why you should download install and and run all three, just to be on the safe side.
