My pc, now 3 years old, is a Packard Bell 6800 SLi. How is easy, if at all, would it be to update its processor, RAM and graphics card? How can I check whether new parts are compatible with the mother board etc? Thank you

from checking the specs on that machine it has an AMD Athlon 64 3700+ CPU, 2gb of ram and two 256Mb nvidea graphics cards!

To go much higher spec than that is going to cost you a fortune and you'd probably be better off starting from scratch and building/buying a entire new base unit.

Thanks ChuckFickens (cool name by the way). Happy to leave the RAM and graphics but just wondering about the processor?
your current CPU is a socket 754 CPU, and is about the best CPU available for that socket so afraid your onto a no-go with upgrading the CPU. unless you upgrade the motherboard too. (then we are back to the "you may as well do the whole lot" situation again.)

Also unless you are doing some real hard core number crunching then a marginal speed upgrade on your CPU is really not going to make much real world difference to the speed of your computer.

Thanks ChuckFickens. Upgrade was for gaming purposes. May have 2 think about making a unit of my own then. Could b an interesting learning curve!
after looking at the specs of the PC from searching on google, the best advice i can give is to get a new system.

the cost of upgrading wouldnt be too much, however the limiting factors on the current system are the motherboard, CPU and Hard drives. this is due to their age and compatibility with newer stuff.

basically, if you upgrade your graphics card. it could be potentially too powerful for your system and be held back by it. meaning you will not see the best performance possible for your money.

i would suggest that you dont get something from PCWorld as they are rubbish and over-price entry level products and then try to sell them as performance parts.
you can get better offers and products from specialist websites such as overclockers.co.uk and scan.co.uk

you want to update the new parts of the computer .

its better for you to update the whole machine .its good for you .

so that your computer will be the new one .

you are ready to update all the components , so when you update the processor you might be update the motherboard.

so that you can establish a new computer.
