I have Windows XP and it is very slow to boot up - works fine when completed, but takes ages.

How can i check which programmes are starting simultaniously with the boot-up, and how can i select which ones i want to start then, and which i can open as and when I want them?

this is the one I use - it's easy to restore if you go wrong

click on start up then on run. type in msconfig and click on it .
a table should appear with items along the top. the far right one should be start up. click on this and it will list all your programmes that start up when you boot. remove the ticks from the programmes that you don't want to start and click apply thewn OK then reboot.
