My CD drive stopped working, tried a diagnostic and I am informed that windows cannot download the driver. No matter what it will not work. leads and power are ok. In "My Computer" the CD does not appear. Short of reformatting is there any way of restoring my CD drive??

Ok,I have a driver downloaded now but the message I get is target not found ?????
right click on control panel - system - hardware - device manager - dvd/cd rom drives.
if your cd is shown there uninstall it then reboot your computer. windows should detect it as new hardware found.
Not all problems are software related - has it crossed your mind that maybe it's just conked out?
