complete system restore.

my son has asked me to do a complete system restore on his laptop, i have done this before but cant remember how, he wants all the rubbish he has on there removed so he can have a much faster computer for when he makes his videos.
his laptop is a compaq presario c700

can anyone help please ?

If it's like my laptop, it came with the software installed and you had to create a back up disc to re install if needed. You would need those discs. Aside from maybe confirming things it'll be automatic I should think.

i did'nt make any discs last time i did it as everything was preinstalled and i just did a complete restore and had to reinstall a few programmes but all the main stuff just reinstalled.

You will have a manual, either on your hard drive or in paper form. That will tell you how to do it.

My laptop came with restore disks; others have a factory restore built in.

thanks for all the answers but im positive the last time i did it i just kept tapping f7 or one of the f keys after start up.
oh hes running vista if that makes any difference.

it will restore from a hidden partition on the hard drive then, and the restore process will be started by hitting a certain key at startup (F11 I believe for compaqs)

thanks everyone, decided to have a look and insted he is deleting loads of programmes to in crease and spped the computer up.
