U.S.B. stick data retrieval

I have had my encrypted U.S.B. stick "formatted". automatically following the max number of attempts at the password. My helpdesk say there is nothing can be done to retrieve the data on it. Is this the case, or is there some technique which they do not know about?

They are correct, it's encrypted so people can not read the data, it wouldn't be very good protection if you could just recover the data!
