I have Windows Defender which came with Vista. Although I set it to do a daily scan, I recently found that it hadn't been doing the scan and on investigating further find that Defender does not come on automatically when I turn on my laptop as I think it is supposed to do so I am having to turn it on to do the scan. There doesn't seem to be an option for it to be turned on when you fire up your computer which I can understand as I am sure it should come on automatically. I'm wondering if anyone can advise me why I have this problem and how to solve it. Thanks.

Windows defender, should show up in the notification area every 2/3 days , i just click on it and do a quick scan, then it goes away for another couple days , in the end i got fed up with it and disabled it, i just got SWB, and Winpatrol for startup programs
