The pointer on my Inspiron laptop has a mind of it's own.It keeps floating around and sometimes changes to the magnifier sign and alters my view size,so I keep having to correct with Ctrl + or -.
It's very annoying does anyone know why ?

The pointer on my Compaq laptop also has a mind of its own. I bought a cheap optical mouse for £1.99 and have had no trouble since. Obviously not as convenient if you are trying to work outdoors.
if it does it when you are not touching the laptop the, well that's just weird!

If it does it when you are typing then you are brushing your hands on the touchpad, have a look in the control panel at pointing devices and see if you can turn off anything to do with zoom on the touchpad and also see if you have a palm detect setting, if you do try different settings with that to see if it helps.

It is weird Chuck,Ive watched it floating around the screen with my hands well away from it.I have unticked the following to see if it makes a difference.
1. Enable pointer shadow and 2 Allow themes to change mouse pointer.

Been ok so far whilst typing this.
Youve not got a laptop with one of those little joysticks between the g/h/b keys have you?

I've seen those cause a wondering pointer before and have solved it by simply disconnecting the pointer stick and just leaving the touch pad connected.
