Problem with "open with" box in Win 7

No problem opening this box but the small box at the bottom is always shaded out-"always use the selected program to open this type of file" and I cannot access it make certain files open the same.Has anyone any ideas how to unshade this little box to make it work

Are you logged in using an account with administrative permissions?

what files are you trying to change the associations for? and have you tried doing it using default programs instead?

Yes I have tried that link but there is nothing under the file associations that apply.If I right click the item I'm trying to change and look at properties it just says "File". I want to change it to.flv. Any way?

It sounds like you are trying to change a file with no extension into a .flv
If you are sure it is a .flv file, you can rename it.

The "always open with" box will not be active if there is no file extension.
