I have had Norton 360 for 11 months, and they are asking silly money to renew.

Is there a budget way to do this?

Can you buy validation codes anywhere?

If I buy a Norton disc cheaply on e bay, can I just enter the validation code from that disc to renew my existing account?

just buy the latest version of the full internet security suite you can find and if needed remove the current version and install new version.

(ignore anyone that may say norton is rubbish, it was a couple of years ago but they got their act together and it's now about the best available)
Really Chuck?

So no need to get Kaplinsky (sp)?
I bought Norton 2010 rather than the upgrade, it was the Norton guy who suggested it and he de-installed the old one and installed the new one.

Thanks for th advice.

I have to cover three computers, so I will look for the cheapest 3 PC disc.
there is a 3pc norton pack on offer at the moment, plus there is norton removal software available online.

Personally I would put norton and kaspersky about level for the home user.

(for the geeks, in a business environment the kaspersky admin console is far better than the norton central management IMO)
I'll stick with kaspersky then...

Chuck...what happens if you don't install security that you've paid for. Does it go out of date?
I have to advise customers at work that the license only starts from when you register your code not when you purchase the software
i got the Norton 3 pc cover for 24.99 @ comet
it was half price at the time which was only a couple of weeks ago
no, the licence will start when you first install it (within reason, if you left it several years there possibly would be a problem)
Goodie goodie....I have kaspersky for at least another year then :-)

torrent
I'm with doc......here, for those with less money and sense

> I have used AVG free version for years with no probs

AVG is basically just anti virus software, it is NOT a full security suite.

There is more to PC security than viruses.
I can't believe that tweaker suggested getting anti virus software from a torrent!

Torrents are about the worst thing about for giving computers viruses and to suggest getting the one thing that is meant to protect you from viruses from a torrent is ludicrous.

I would rather have either no anti virus at all or the worst possible free one installed then the best in the world if it came from a torrent!

Have I opened a can of worms?

If you de-install a security programme every year, using a removal tool, and install a new one, is there any danger of leaving bits behind that slow the computer up?
