As this is an imbeded vrsion of Windows you should br able to use Windows Live Messenger for emails. For a good free firewall you could use PC TOOLS firewall plus bit you will have to check if it will work with this OS first.Windows Live Security Essentials is a free antivirus from Microsoft which should do it for you.
