two (ddr pc2 5300 1gb) in with two spare slots capable of taking two more 1gb rams ,but there choice was (ddr2 pc2 5300) (ddr2 pc2 6400) or (ddr2 pc 8500) that means I will have two ddr and two ddr2 I'm sure they're right but always thought you shouldn't mix and match things and what if I choose the 8500 one that would be different again
I'm buying from pc world so I have to make sure of what its all about

I know Answer but its either pc world or maplin , never got the hang of buying on the net, proper luddite
CEX is a high st shop - prices are comparable to online.
any high street PC store will be cheaper than pc world, maplins are even worse.
I bought 2 strips of ddr pc2 6400 1gb - they were £15 each.
(from my local CEX)

There is only those two in our town of 50k
all the chips have to match, so you cannot mix ddr and ddr2, you would have to replace all of the chips not just add 2.

Thats what I thought but Crucial suggested upgrade was the two current 1gb left in and the two new 1gb added making the 4gb
I think I had better take it to one of our local lads ,give them the worry

All the best to you all for time and advice
I would personally go to the manufacturers website and get the info about what you can and cannot fit. it is also recommended by manufacturers that you obtain memory modules from the same vendor.
