Any ideas how to fix this error? I know I can use a data recovery software to try and get this files back, but then do I need to just format the drive and I'm good? Or will I need to purchase a new hard drive? Thanks in advance!

Well it depends what you are storing on the drive. if it was me I wouldn't trust that drive again, I'd get a new one.
Start/Run/chkdsk /r
Answer Y to schedule the process. Reboot. It will take a while and might sort things out.
