The following are ticked as 'enabled' in the start up. Are they essential or could they be slowing things up-
Egis Tec
Catalyst Co
Cyberlink Po
BT common C
Alps Pointing
Realtek hd

I apologise if this is a very silly question but I am a novice.
Thanks for any advice

Egis Tec..... Do you have a finger print reader on your computer? probably that if so, can be disabled if you don't use it

Catalyst Co(ntrol centre)..... The control panel for your ATI graphics card. Best left enabled.

Cyberlink Po..... Cyberlink DVD software, not essential if you don't use it.

BT common C..... Not 100% sure, probably something to do with your BT internet connection, if you have a router you probably don't need it, if you have a modem it's probably best left alone.

Alp pointing....... your touchpad driver, leave it

Realtek HD...... your sound card software, again leave it.

Can you try and post the full names of the services in future and not cut them off short, it would make life easier. Ta :)

Thank you Chuck, I was hoping you would be around.

I typed the names exactly as they appear as I don't know what the full names are anyway.
I don't have a finger print reader so I will do as you suggest.

Thanks again x
egis tec provide a range of things, and without seeing the rest of the name (can you not scroll it to the right?) it's a bit hard to guess what it might be.

but, if you disable it and suddenly something you use stops working then just enable it again.
I use Catalyst Drivers for ATI card .. on a few machines.
ATI and Catalyst stuff does not need to run .. unless you are using 'Smartgart' or Catalyst speed (overclocking) mods.
run Services.msc and uncheck ATI stuff.
Make sure unchecked elsewhere.
