how do you put dvd onto external harddrive

Always by copying the whole folders (two folders which are AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS) and keeping in a folder named after the movie.
If direct from disc, you will have to use something like DVDFab or AnyDVD to rip it to HDD. This removes the CSS protection.
