desk top icons will not open any prog relating to internet eg bing, google, hotmail.a box appears that asks for prog that created the icon to be used ie internet explorer.any suggestions how to fix problem??
recently had computer fixed after bad virus wiped out op system.now if i try to put icon on desktop eg answerbank the short cut icon will only open up through internet explorer not sure if delete IE will work and google ,answerbank etc are not to be found in all progs
You'll have to explain better.
You can make a shortcut in IE to any site .. by dragging from the address bar to the desktop ... or you can save to Bookmarks/Favorites.
So when you click on that shortcut, you expect IE to open and go to the site.
Isn't that what happens then?
You are not deleting the IE program .. just the old shortcut to it!
Google and Answerbank are websites. They will not appear in your programs and will open in IE as you said they are doing. Not sure I see what the problem is.
until recently i have always been able to right click on any site and "create shortcut" which then puts icon on desktop then just click on icon and site will open rather than having to go via IE after clicking on icon which is two steps rather than one
