my 'send' box is not working at all at the moment. I keep getting 'Error 0x8ccc003. One of my outbox emails has 20 photo attachments - is that what is causing the problem? Many thanks for any ideas.

It is not a good idea to send so many photo attchments with an email. It may break the size limit, not sure, but it is still not a good idea.

It can take ages to upload it to send the email, and it will take ages to download it to the person or people who get it (and may even break their download limit).

Why not put the pictures on a "free" image hosting site such as Photobucket, Flickr, or even Facebook (and there are others)
Size limit with most ISP's is 10Mb.
Check the properties of all the attachments together is not exceeding. I expect it is.
Also, it's best to zip the files .. and just attach the zip. The attachment is likely to be shrunk quite a bit.

Thanks VHG and AlBags - I will try your suggestions later this (gloomy) afternoon. Too long at the monitor for now - eyes smarting and feeling caffeine-withdrawal symptoms. Cheers. UnClart.

Jpegs are already in a compressed format so I dont think you will make them much smaller by putting them in a zip file.
I only ever mail 3or 4 pics ...if any more put on facebook and send a link to whomsoever you want to see them...
VHG .. Did they say what format they were in?

VHG and AlBags ....Splendid! Problem solved.
Totted up the photographs and found a grand total of 26Mb :-) , so did some deleting and reducing, and voila! all working correctly again. Have now been sending them in twos and threes with no problem, but they are rather small, i.e. tiny. Will the recipient be able to enlarge them, or am I missing another trick here?
How are you reducing? With the Windows 'add a picture' bar that appears when you attach a picture?
You should manually attach a few at a time to keep the total attachment size to below 10Mb. Then it will work better.
If you are resizing to very small pics, they will NOT be recoverable to full size at all.
I have noticed whether its many pictures or a large number of contacts it is liable to be blocked . I have found the answer is to cut the numbers down and it's usually OK.

It turns out the photos are capable of being enlarged 'at the other end' so all is well, and thanks for all the good advice. By the way, the snaps are from a load of very old 35mm negs. which I passed through an excellent 'Stand Alone' digital image copier bought from Maplin Electronics for about £80. It's very easy to use and well made.
Anyone can 'enlarge' ANY photo .. but in compressing or making them smaller first means you ca never recover the original data .. and enlarge picture will be pixellated.
