A friend recently received a phone call from a foreign sounding gentleman claiming to represent 'Windows UK' and advising him of a potential problem with Windows and offering to rectify it. The caller had my friend's name, address, phone number etc. My friend told him to call back next day.

This sounds like a potential scam to me. What do you think ?

You could always play along with them eg. let then get so far into their spiel then say

How can you tell - it doesn't have internet on it" etc.

But remember don't let them access your computer.
don't both, tuvok, not worth your while.
i pretend to go along with what they want... i turn my machine on, then tell them its running a diskcheck and is such as slow crap machine that it takes ages, then i keep them waiting for ages. sometimes they ring back later, but guess what? - its still checking.
or if they leave it for a while i say i have switched it off again, then make all sorts of excuses and fake error messages etc...

waste their time haha
