Modem Usage - Is There A Way To Check?

I have Plusnet as my ISP - but will be changing when my 12 months is up - and so I have a bandwidth limit of about 2gig a day.

The system will allow free for all between midnight and 8am daily.

This morning at 8am I checked and I was just about on target for this month and had my full allowance for the day. Been out visiting and came back tonight (10 o'clock-ish), did a check and it appears between 1 and 1.5 gigs have been used despite PC being totally switched off all day.

I do have a Kindle Fire tablet on standby and the modem is left on 24/7.

Is there any way of checking if and when my modem is being accessed and by whom. Is there a way of checking if the Kindle is going on-line, but I dont know what for! Is someone local hacking my access to a secure connection?

turn your kindle off, are you connect to comp by cable or wifi .if wifi check and change your wifi access password some one maybe next door could be getting your wifi if they have sussed out what your password is

Is it actually a simple modem or a router (containing a modem)?

If it's a router you might be able to access an activity log by going into your router settings. That's achieved by entering the relevant 'dotted quad' into your internet browser's address bar. e.g. for a Belkin router you enter 192.168.1.254 as the address.

Googling 'xxxxx router address', where xxxxx represents the make of your browser will find the relevant dotted quad for you.
