I use Norton on my laptop but my iPad has no security.

Any suggestions as to how to detect suspect Apps and is there a need to install security,if so, which one.

As long as you haven't jailbroken the iPad and only download apps from the App store then you shouldn't need security, I'm not actually sure you can get it to be honest. Apps from the App store have to go through Apple first.
You can get antivirus from some vendors but usually all the software that you get from the Apple store has been checked out and should be free of any virus infections.
